Here’s how you can tell it’s time for new oil in your vehicle
Vehicle maintenance is part of owning a car. While you may not like it, it’s vital to preserving the condition of your vehicle and ensuring a long lifespan. However, if you’re not a motorhead, doing your own vehicle maintenance can be a daunting task. From oil changes to tire rotations, how are you supposed to know when it’s time to do something? As far as oil changes go, there are a few things that you can look for to determine whether or not you need new oil. Take a look at the warning signs below that you need an oil change soon!
It’s Time (mileage) For An Oil Change
The first thing to take into account is how long it’s been since your last oil change. Regardless of the condition of your vehicle, most manufacturers recommend that the oil be changed every 3,000 – 5, 000 miles. If you’re in this range, you can have your oil changed anytime. If you’re outside of this range, you need to have your oil changed immediately.
Dashboard Lights
Another warning sign is the dashboard lights. If your check engine light comes on, it may be an indication that oil levels are low. However, some newer vehicles have a change-oil light that specifically lets you know that the oil is old and needs to be changed.
Engine Noise
Another sign that the engine oil needs to be changed is the noise coming from the engine. The job of the oil is to lubricate the components of the engine to prevent them from knocking together. When oil levels run low or need to be changed, you’ll hear engine noises that aren’t present at other times. This is an indication that your vehicle should be inspected and likely that the oil should be changed.
Dark, Cloudy Oil, Time For an Oil Change!
One way that you can tell the condition of your oil is by looking at it! Use the dipstick to check a sample of the oil. If it’s normal colored, there’s probably not a problem with your oil. However, if it’s dark and cloudy like it’s been used, then it’s time for a change.
Visible Exhaust
